Oratorio (Aus) wrapped up a winning treble at Belmont on Saturday when odds-on favourite Ora Dare completed a hat-trick of his own in the Apprentices Cup (2200m).
Moet Me began a big day for Mungrup Stud’s champion stallion in the Westspeed 3YO Hcp (1300m) and Little Shadow continued her winning run in the Skyy Vodka Hcp (1200m).
Moet Me (3g Oratorio – Livorno by Clay Hero) collared Steel Almighty at the furlong and outgunned the favourite second-up after a six-month spell. “I was happy with his return run here last month,” trainer Dan Morton said. “We waited three weeks and this was the right race for him.”
An eye-catching debut winner at Ascot last November, Moet Me was in the market for the Perth Magic Millions 2YO Classic and the LR Supremacy Stakes but didn’t fire. “He was a thinker so we had him gelded,” Morton explained. “He still thinks a bit but you can’t cut them twice!”
Morton paid $75,000 for Moet Me at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions. He is a younger half-brother to LR Illawarra 2YO Classic winner She’s In Demand (Commands) and Victorian winner Livorno Express (Danehill Express).
“He’s owned by a large syndicate and some of them came down from Broome to see the win,” Morton added. “He’s a sound horse and I can see him racing on for a few seasons.”
Oratorio won his third WA 2YO title in 2012-13 and his stock keep turning a profit as they mature. Heading his six year-olds last season were Trustee Brown (LR Detonator Stakes)and Waratah’s Secret who passed $700,000 in earnings.
Oratorio (Aus) is standing for a $13,750 (inc gst) service fee at Mungrup Stud this year.
