Paddock injury claims No Excuse Needed

Waikato Stud stallion No Excuse Needed (GB) has died from injuries received from a paddock accident.  The son of Machiavellian was 17.

“No Excuse Needed was a sire who gave us some great thrills,” Waikato Stud’s Mark Chittick said.  “He left Group 1 winners I Do (Makfi Challenge) and Daffodil (AJC Oaks & NZ 1000 Guineas) and it was a real privilege to have raced both horses ourselves.”

Delivering from the get-go, No Excuse Needed was NZ Champion First Season Sire in 2006-07 and followed up with the Champion NZ 2YO Sire title the following season thanks largely to Karaka Million winner Vincent Mangano.

His other black-type winning 2YOs includes Grand Dancer, Snow Excuse & Lesley Brook.

Bred at Gainsborough Stud, No Excuse Needed (pictured) won four races for trainer Sir Michael Stoute and Sheikh Maktoum topped by the G2 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.  There have been 17 stakes winners to date and he was standing for a $6,000 (plus gat) fee.
