Palmyra Boy powers home in the Chief Minister’s Cup

Palmyra Boy produced a whirlwind finish in the final 200m to defeat Montego Bay in the Chief Minister’s Cup at Fannie Bay on Saturday.

Palmyra Boy (8g Mujahid – Palmyra Bay by Semipalatinsk) is part-owned and prepared by Victorian trainer Neil Dyer for a syndicate that includes long-time client Andrew Biacci.  He was an impressive winner of the NT-TAB ROANT Cup leading into the Chief Minister’s Cup.

Dyer has claimed three feature races in the Top End this season.  The Kyneton based trainer initially travelled to Darwin in 2008 with Redhead Rage.  He returned the following year with Hawks Bay and won the Darwin Guineas and the Derby before finishing second to Activation in the Cup.

Palmyra Boy is a grey son of former Widden Stud sire Mujahid and is a half-brother to 7 winners including Scone stakes winner Little Pattie (Polish Patriot).

Little Pattie is the dam of Queensland Listed winner Fifteen Carat (Show a Heart) and another of Palmyra Boy’s half-sisters foaled Sydney & Melbourne G3 winner McClintock (King Cugat).

His dam Palmyra Bay won 4 races and she was G1 placed in the 1987 Doomben Cup behind Dandy Andy and El Vaquero.

Dyer confirmed Palmyra Boy will be set for the Metric Mile on July 23 and Darwin Cup on August 1.
