Patinack Farm commenced the next stage of its expansion when Abeyant outclassed the opposition over 1200m at Kranji on Friday night.  He won going away by more than three lengths carrying Nathan Tinkler’s blue, green and yellow colours.

The victory was a first for Patinack’s Singapore trainer Cliff Brown.  “I certainly felt a lot of pressure,” Brown admitted.  “Abeyant seemed to take a long time to wind up but he did it well in the end and won very well.  I’m tickled pink.

Abeyant (3c Exceed And Excel – Luanda by Mr. Prospector) is probably looking for something longer and his pedigree suggest he will continue to improve up to a mile.  He is by Darley’s worldwide winner-getter Exceed And Excel who made it a running double when his Japanese bred gelding Eternal Traveller won the following event at Kranji.

Abeyant is from USA bred mare Luanda, a Chantilly placegetter but still a maiden when she retired after 7 starts.  Second-dam Via Borghese (Seattle Dancer) was a G3 winner of the Desmond Stakes at the Curragh before crossing the Atlantic to score at G2 level in the Diana Hcp at Saratoga.

Luanda’s three foals to race have all won starting with Rumbler (Redoute’s Choice) and Soho Madame (Falbrav).  Abeyant was purchased by former Patinack trainer Anthony Cummings for $120,000 out of the Swettenham Stud draft at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.

Abeyant won on debut at Newcastle in January 2009 for trainer Jason Coyle.  He followed up with a length second to Tale Of Love in the Inglis 2YO Premier at Caulfield the following month.

“Nathan (Tinkler) is a big owner and hopefully the first-up win can kick start things for him up here,” Brown added.  “We’ve got another Patinack galloper named Feared and he should debut very soon.”

Feared is by Champion 2yo sire More Than Ready from Golden Slipper winner Merlene (Danehill) and is a half-sister to up-and-coming South African G2 winner Merlene De Lago (Encosta de Lago).

Unplaced twice in Sydney last year, Feared can pave the way for more Patinack horses heading to Brown’s Singapore stables this year.
