Victorian based Lord Jim sired his first winner at Warrnambool on Monday. Colac trainer Daryl Cannon prepared his filly Perfect Jay to a long head victory in the Vic Hotel Maiden (1400m).
Perfect Jay (3f Lord Jim – Perfect Nature by Encosta de Lago) started a $21 outsider after finishing among the tailenders at Colac, Terang and Warrnambool. At her only other start this year, she had been placed in a Great Western maiden in the Wimmera.
Lord Jim stands at Sutket Farm at Portarlington for a $7,700 service fee. His only other placegetter has been five year-old mare Going Concern who has returned minor cheques at Penola, Coleraine, Murray Bridge and Mt Gambier.
Lord Jim (Arg) is a son of Mr Prospector sire Lode and was the Champion 2YO colt in Argentina in 1999-2000. His Australian stud career began badly in 2005. Official records show he covered 44 mares but only 7 were returned to the Stud Book. He only served one mare in 2006.
