Galileo filly Perfect The Truth firmed for the G1 English Oaks after an impressive all-the-way win in the Chester Oaks on Wednesday.
The Aidan O’Brien trained filly is now a 16-1 chance for the Oaks at Epsom Downs on June 5. Luca Cumani’s Fantasia (Sadler´s Wells), a G3 winner of the Nell Gwynne Stakes at Newmarket last month, is the pre-post favourite at 6-1.
Perfect The Truth (3f Galileo — Charroux by Darshaan) had five lengths in hand turning for home under Johnny Murtagh and they just lasted to defeat Phillipina in a photo-finish.
“We’re delighted with her,” O’Brien said. “She’s been coming forward with every run and it’s great to have won a Listed race with her as she is a very well bred Galileo filly. There are over four weeks to go to the Oaks and that will be her next race.”
Murtagh was equally impressed. “She has a huge stride and really extended. It was a long last furlong, but she deserved to win.”
Perfect The Truth’s dam Charroux is a half-sister to top-class stayer Gildoran. It’s the family of Cheveley Park Stakes winner Durtal and Arc de Triomphe winners Detroit and Carnegie.
The Aidan O’Brien trained Masterofthehorse will be out to enhance his English Derby claims in the G3 Chester Vase on Thursday. The Sadler’s Wells colt is a 16-1 chance with bookies for the Epsom Downs classic on June 6.
English 2000 Guineas winner Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) is a 5-2 favourite for the Derby but there are several sons of Galileo in the market.
Ballydoyle colt Rip van Winkle (Galileo) is at 10-1 and he will go to Epsom Downs without another run. Other Galileo colts with claims are Kite Wood (14-1), Age Of Aquarius (16-1) and Freemantle (25-1).
