Perfect start for Brighthill Stud stallion

Brackenwood gave Brighthill Stud stallion Perfectly Ready his first winner at Wanganui on Saturday.  The Awapuni colt scored a determined half-length victory over game front-runner Venetain Raider in the 92.8 MORE FM 2YO over 800 metres.

Brackenwood (2c Perfectly Ready – Woodminco by Woodman) is trained by Lisa Latta and is a younger half-brother to another precocious youngster from a few years back named Russian Conquest (St. Petersburg).  He won three juvenile events in 2006-07 including the Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes at Ellerslie.

Perfectly Ready is a son of More Than Ready and his dam is a Danehill half-sister to G1 Golden Slipper winner Belle Du Jour.  He was trained by Mick Price and was a G3 winner of the MRC Blue Diamond Prelude before beating older sprinters in the G1 SAJC Goodwood Handicap as a three-year-old.

Brighthill Stud’s Nick and Anne-Marie King presented his initial crop at the 2010 NZB Karaka Premier yearling sales earlier this year and he was the leading first season sire with four lots changing hands for an average of $150,000.  His half-brother to NZ Horse of the Year Mufhasa (Pentire) topped the draft at $290,000.

Latta bought Brackenwood for $26,000 out of the Grande Vue Lodge draft at the NZB Select session.

Perfectly Ready’s Australian based colt Isle be Ready nearly gave him a perfect start at stud in the Listed AJC Breeders’ Plate at Randwick on October 2.  The Bede Murray trained youngster sat on the pace and was being hailed the winner until Smart Missile arrived with a powerful finish.

Anothony Cummings rates Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) the best two year-olds he’s ever trained and will set him for the Golden Slipper.  Murray will send Isle be Ready back to NZ for the Karaka Million at Ellerslie in January.

Perfectly Ready has a dozen lots catalogued for the NZ Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale next month.

Lot 198 is a filly being prepared by successful Cambridge vendor Sally’s Stables.  She is a half-sister to G1 Easter Hcp winner Pasta Post (Postponed).

Lot 258 is Phoenix Park’s gelding from G1 Railway Stakes winner Donna Rosita.  He’s the mare’s first foal and is bred on the same Woodman cross as Brackenwood.

Lot 261 is a half-brother Australian stakes winning stayer He Guy (Lord Ballina).   He won 6 races up to 3200m in the Duke of Norfolk Stakes at Flemington.  He is part of the Mangatiti Bloodstock consignment.

Lot 315 is an Esker Lodge entrant and is a half-brother to Awapuni Listed winner Banchiere (Faltaat).  He also won at Listed level in Malaysia racing as New Kuala Dipang.  Another half-brother Our Court (Pompeii Court) won 10 races in Australia and was a G2 runner-up to Casual Pass in the 2003 Norman Robinson Stakes at Caulfield.

Lot 429 is offered on account of Rich Hill and is a half-brother to Australian stakes performer Mi Casa Su Casa (Zabeel).

Perfectly Ready covered 422 mares in his first three years at Brighthill Stud.  He is serving another full book at the Hamilton nursery for a $12,000 fee this season.
