Perfect start for Heritage at Ascot

Yarradale Stud sire Heritage made the perfect start to his stud career when his first starter Flying Heritage scored a brilliant debut win at Ascot on Saturday.

Heritage is by Flying Spur out of a sister to Northerly and he continued the marvellous run for Yarradale owner Ron Sayers at Perth’s Festival of Racing.  Sayers races leading filly Clueless Angel who back-ended black-type wins in the Burgess Queen Stakes (G3) and WA Guineas (G2) at Ascot last month.

Clueless Angel (2f Oratorio – Petite Angel by Marooned) was a $130,000 buy for Sayers at the 2008 Perth Magic Millions.  She comes from a family that has supplied numerous black-type winners for leading owner-breeder Bob Peters.

Flying Heritage (2g Heritage – Czaba by Salieri) controlled the City Of Perth Plate (1000m) from the outset.  He was sent straight to the front by comeback jockey Chad Davies and was never headed.

Heritage wasn’t inundated with bookings in his first three seasons serving just 75 mares in that time at Yarradale.  He was unraced due to a leg injury and it’s always difficult to promote a stallion with no race record on the board.

On the plus side, Heritage is by Champion Danehill stallion Flying Spur who also has Glenlogan Park sire Jet Spur off to a great start at stud this season.  And Heritage carries the same Northern Dancer – Raise A Native cross as Champion WA sire Serheed.

His dam North Bell foaled Cox Plate hero Northerly, G2 winner North Boy and G3 winner Northern Song.

Flying Heritage is out of Czaba who was bred by Catherine Remond and her earlier foals included provincial winners by Lindsay Park sire General Monash and Yarradale residents Euclase and Medal of Honor.

Czaba was pensioned earlier this year after her filly by De Troy (Arg) was destroyed after being foaled last November.  She also lost a Zentsov Street (USA) filly in similar circumstances in 2006.

Czaba is out of an unraced half-sister to Group winners Monakea, Awesome and Market.  Second dam With Respect (Rego) was a Newhaven Stud homebred who was a G2 winner of the VRC Wakeful Stakes.

Flying Heritage is prepared by former leading apprentice Tim Stubberfield for a syndicate managed by Shane French.  “That was great for all of the owners and for Chad who has put in a lot of work on the horse,” Stubberfield said.  “I had to back off him last month but got him here ready to win.”
