Peters Investments missed improving its monumental G2 Perth Cup record when Diamond Scene (So You Think) was beaten less than a length on Wednesday but it only took another half-hour to lift another feature race in front of a big crowd at Ascot.
Bob and Sandra Peters aren’t familiar with going home empty-handed on New Year’s Day and their homebred Antique Miss (Domesday) came to the party with a front-running victory in G3 La Trice Classic (1800m).
The 5yo mare won up to 2100m during Belmont’s winter season and had been runner-up in the LR Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) in November while gradually rising in distance this prep.
Chris Parnham slowed the tempo in the cerise and white silks on Antique Miss before sprinting to a clear lead at the top of the straight. She was all out at the finish but held on to prevail from Miss Skyhigh (Harry Angel) and Rusty Dreams (Universal Ruler).
“I didn’t expect her to lead but she’s a game little mare and there was no pace in front,” Bob Peters said. “There’s more racing left in her and we will try her over more ground.”
Antique Miss made it 6 wins for Peters Investments in the last 12 renewals of the La Trice Classic following Perfect Jewel (Redoute’s Choice), Celebrity Dream (Thorn Park), Cosmic Storm (Street Sense), Ideal Image (More Than Ready) and Elite Belle (Canny Lad).
Peters Investments were regular clients of her sire Domesday (Red Ransom) and were rewarded with winners the calibre of Arcadia Dream (G2 WATC Derby) and Heart Starter (G3 Asian Beau Stakes).
Her dam Antique Belle (Redoute’s Choice) won a LR Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) and LR Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) while second-dam Antique (Metal Storm) was a full-sister to Kalatiara (G2 WA Guineas) and Kentiara (LR Detonator Stakes).
And not for the first time, Peters Investments tops the WA breeders’ table with the winners of 7 black-type races so far this season.
Antique Miss follows Diamond Scene (LR ATA Stakes & LR Luckygray Stakes), Western Empire (G3 Gold Rush), Sentimental Hero (LR Allan Scahill Cup), London’s Image (LR Burgess Queen Stakes) and Midnight Blue (LR Seymour Cup).
