A Pico Central filly topped Day 2 of the Ocala Breeders’ 2yo Sale in Florida on Tuesday when making $200,000 to the bid of agent Steve Shahinian. She had breezed 600m in 33s which was equal fastest among the workouts prior to the auction.
Pico Central (Spend A Buck) was 2002 Horse of the Year in Brazil before shipping to North America where he was a G1 winner of the Metropolitan Hcp, Vosburgh Stakes and Carter Hcp. He was based in Florida for two seasons before being sold to the Korean Racing Association’s Jeju Stud Farm in October 2007.
His session-topping filly is out of Strawberrydaiquiri (Cherokee Run) who is a half sister to G2 Louisiana Derby winner Wimbledon.
A total of 209 lots changed hands on Day 2 of the of the Ocala 2yo Sale for turnover of $6.44 million. The average price for the session was $30,818 which was up 29% compared to the corresponding session a year ago. The clearance rate improved 3 points to 83%.
