Pinhook double from Marsh & Moreira

Bevan Street has launched his career with a stylish victory for Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh and Pinhook Bloodstock (FBAA) at Taupo.

Marsh prepares the Kiwi gelding for his parents Bruce & Kay. He was impressive in two autumn trials and raced keenly on debut before rounded off well in the straight under Danielle Johnson.

“I was quite nervous, he’s the first horse I’ve had for Mum and Dad,” Marsh said. “He’s got heaps of improvement and I think he’s got a big future.”

Bevan Street (Road To Rock) was purchased for $18,000 on behalf of the Marsh family by agent Dave Mee at the 2015 NZB South Island Sale.

Pinhook Bloodstock also posted a win in Hong Kong when Star Superior saluted in the Ping Shan Hcp (1200m) at Sha Tin. Champion jockey Joao Moreira got him home with a well-timed finish to score by a neck.

“Joao rode the perfect race from barrier 12 and carrying top weight of 132 pounds (60kg),” trainer Michael Chang said. “There was a lot of speed in the race so I told him to jump, relax, let him travel and save some ground on the bend.”

Mee bought Star Superior privately from Queensland trainer Stuart Kendrick. A son of Reward For Effort, he had previously raced as Montana Star winning juveniles at Sunshine Coast & Doomben before shipping off-shore.

Chung Wah Spirit (Dash For Cash) is another Pinhook Bloodstock graduate with his hoof on the till in Hong Kong following a gutsy second last time out at Sha Tin. He was crowded at the half-mile and can make amends at Happy Valley on October 11.
