Stakes double for Snitzel

Snitzel has excelled himself, yet again, to kick-start a memorable day’s racing at Flemington.

The Arrowfield superstar sired a stakes-winning double as a dress-rehearsal for wonder-mare Winx in the G1 Turnbull Stakes.  His filly Nomothaj won the LR Maribyrnong Trial (1000m) and Snitzepeg joined the roll-call in the LR Poseidon Stakes (1400m).

Snitzel has now sired 13 individual stakes winners since the start of the season and leads the Australian premiership with prizemoney of $4.21 million.  He topped the ladder last season with 26 stakes winners and $16.22 million.

Redzel will ensure he’s odds-on for another title if the powerhouse sprinter is successful in next Saturday’s $10 million The Everest.

Lindsay Park debutante filly Nomothaj became Snitzel’s 28th juvenile stakes-winner with a tenacious victory in the first 2yo event of the season in Victoria.  Bred by Love Racing, she was a $420,000 buy for Shadwell Stud at this year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Her dam Real Stolle (Elusive Quality) won the G3 Maribyrnong Plate in 2011 and she foaled another Snitzel filly in August.  The Snitzel-Elusive Quality cross also produced this season’s G3 Up and Coming Stakes winner Dracarys.

No sooner were Snitzel’s stats updated than his 3yo colt Snitzepeg chimed in with a maiden stakes win for Darren Weir.  Bred by Jeff Allis from Pegasus Queen (Fusaichi Pegasus), he cost $260,000 at the 2016 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) has a lifetime tally of 72 stakes winners and his service fee has increased from $33,000 in 2012 to $176,000 this season.
