Somepin Anypin emerged as a front-line candidate for the autumn classics with a seven length victory in the Pages Event Equipment Hcp (1300m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
The son of Waikato Stud stallion Pins will take his next step up the ladder in the Hobartville Stakes (G2) and trainer Gary Portelli is quietly confident he will make the grade after watching him cruise home from Unanimously (Not A Single Doubt) and Rock My Heart (Snitzel).
“He reproduced what we see when he works in the morning,” Portelli said. “I believe he’s a Group horse and he could be up to the good races in the autumn” ”
Portelli gave Somepin Anypin plenty of time to find his feet before breaking his maiden at Canterbury last month. He defeated Pacquiao (Oratorio) by more than three lengths that day and he came out and won by seven lengths next time out.
Somepin Anypin (3g Pins – Ungaro by Centaine) was purchased from the Waikato Stud draft at the 2009 NZB Karaka yearling sale. His dam Ungaro had already foaled the O’Reilly stakes performers Charlie Bub, Salsa and O’Crikey plus Danasinga’s Brisbane stakes winner Rule Of Engagement and the $30,000 price-tag was a snip for agent Vin Cox.
Ungaro is a sister to G1 Goodwood Hcp winner Centisle and a half-sister to the G2 winning mare Sylvaner (Danasinga).
Pins (Snippets) has a huge draft catalogued for the upcoming NZB Karaka yearling sale. Top of the totem pole on pedigree is the half-brother to Group 1 winner Darci Brahma. He is catalogued as Lot 346 by Pencarrow Stud.
