Waikato sire Pins continued his strike-rate of better than a win a day in Australia last week and among them was a Listed winner at Rosehill.
The Pins procession started with Albion (Strathalbyn) on Thursday and kept coming courtesy of Eye Of The Needle (Canberra) on Friday, Legsman (Rosehill) & Mews (Newcastle) on Saturday and Cheville (Ballarat) on Sunday.
Gallant front-runner Legsman will be spelled for the spring carnival after his brave Listed victory in the Winter Cup at Rosehill. “I just let him travel comfortably,” jockey Jim Cassidy said. “Tough stayers like him are hard to run down if they keep running those sectionals.”
It was a gem of a ride by The Pumper. Legsman was six lengths clear of his rivals at the 1200m mark, and turned for home with a three length lead. Fellow NZ bred Tullamore (Savabeel) put up a game effort to claim second, but Legsman was too tough to win by one length.
Pins has now sired 41 stakes winners and Legsman could be a future Group 1 winner with connections setting him for The Metropolitan on his home track in the spring.
Legsman (5g Pins – Snobbish by Centaine) was purchased by John O’Shea from Waikato Stud for $105,000 at the 2007 Karaka Premier Sale. He has now won over $250,000.
His dam Snobbish had foaled earlier winners Tell Someone (O’Reilly), Star Of Dublin (O’Reilly), Prickle (Pins), Very Grand (O’Reilly) and I’m A Toff (Pins).
She has an unraced 3yo Tailorman (Pins) and an unnamed 2yo by Pins. Her yearling filly by Pins was purchased by NZ Bloodstock as agent for $7,500 at the 2011 National Sale.
Snobbish descends from a crack Waikato Stud family being a sister to G1 winner Slight Chance and the pedigree also features another stakes winning product of the Matamata nursery in Sharp Princess.
