Planet Rock increased her lead in the NZ Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series with a brave front-running victory in the G2 Cambridge Stud Eight Carat Classic (1600m) at Ellerslie on Monday.
Planet Rock (3f Fastnet Rock – Akris by Zabeel) has now earned 20 points and is well clear of second-placed Testa Secret (Testa Rossa) on 10 points. Third placed Abeautifulred (Handsome Ransom) has earned 7 points.
Planet Rock was purchased from Wellfield Lodge at NZ Bloodstock’s 2010 Karaka Premier Sale for $290,000. She has won that back and more with four wins including the G1 NZ 1000 Guineas at Riccarton last month. The last four winners of the Guineas have gone on to take the series.
The Eight Carat winner is from a winning half-sister to Gorky Park (Montjeu), a Listed winner of the VRC Andrew Ramsden Stakes and Geelong Classic. Wellfield Lodge has catalogued an Alamosa half-brother to Planet Rock as Lot 37 at the 2012 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka.
The next leg of the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series is the G2 NZB Royal Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie on January 1.
