Pluck mare Summoned to Melbourne

Life On The Wire will be set for a Group 3 event at the Melbourne spring carnival following a brilliant front-running victory in Launceston.

The Pluck (USA) mare clocked a blistering 1:08.96s in the Groovers Hcp (1200m) on Wednesday night to earn a start in the $150,000 Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown on November 18.

“That’s a serious time and she ran it carrying 59kg,” trainer Scott Brunton said.  “She been a class act since Day 1 and is a real progressive mare.”

Life On The Wire (4m Pluck – Our Seventh Heaven by Vettori) will have a travelling cheer squad with a syndicate of 30 set to join her on the trip across Bass Strait.

Brunton put together a package at the 2015 Adelaide Magic Millions where members got a share in four yearlings.  “She went for well below what I thought she was worth because she was just a little off-set,” Brunton recalled.  “But that hasn’t stopped her one bit.”

A chestnut with a high head-carriage, Life On The Wire was quickly out of the blocks as a two year-old with wins at Elwick and Devonport.  She graduated to black-type company at three with a narrow loss to Hot Dipped in the Tasmanian Guineas (1600m) and a distant second to Sydney raider Northwest Passage in the Hobart Guineas (2100m).

Her dam Our Seventh Heaven won the Taupo Cup in NZ and close relation What Life Brings was also trained by Brunton to win the 2013 Hobart Guineas.

Pluck, who stands for a $9,900 (inc gst) fee at Vinery, sired promising 3yo Flash Cash to an earlier victory on Wednesday at Bendigo.
