Pour Moi has developed a problem while in quarantine and will not shuttle from Coolmore Stud to Windsor Park Stud this year.
The English Derby winner has been grounded on veterinary advice although detailed information of the setback has not yet been released. “It’s disappointing news,” Windsor Park studmaster Rodney Schick said. “But the welfare of the stallion is paramount and we look forward to his return next season.”
A son of Montjeu, Pour Moi won three races in five starts highlighted by the 2011 English Derby. He was among the favourites for that year’s Arc de Triomphe until suffering a career-ending near-foreleg injury.
Pour Moi is bred on the hugely successful Sadler’s Wells – Darshaan cross responsible for fellow English Derby winner High Chaparral who sired So You Think, Shoot Out, Monaco Consul and Descarado while in residence at Windsor Park.
He has already proven popular in the southern hemisphere after two breeding seasons and his 2014 season had been set at $14,000. At the NZB National Weanling Sale in May, he sold 4 foals at an average of $45,000.
