The Luca Cumani-trained Presvis captured his third Dubai win in three seasons when successful in the G2 Al Rashidiya at Meydan on Thursday night. The British based gelding had won two restricted races at Nad al Sheba in 2009 and he claimed the G2 Jebel Hatta last year.
Presvis (7g Sakhee – Forest Fire by Never So Bold) was resuming after a long spell and caught Cumani by surprise. “We thought he would need the run having been off the scene since Royal Ascot. He was second in the Dubai Duty Free in 2009 and that remains the likely target.”
Presvis settled at least four lengths adrift of the remainder of the field on Thursday night but made up ground readily on the home turn. He sliced through the field to win by five lengths under a confident Ryan Moore ride.
The widely travelled galloper has a Group 1 to his credit over Viva Pataca in the 2009 Queen Elizabeth 11 Cup in Hong Kong but his only home base wins have been in minor events at Sandown and Newbury.
Presvis sold for 30,000gns to agent Amanda Skiffington at the Tattersalls October Sale in 2005. He is by Sakhee and comes from a nondescript family of Scandinavian winners.
Sakhee (Bahri) won the 2001 Arc de Triomphe and returned the following year to be placed behind Street Cry at his penultimate start in the 2002 Dubai World Cup.
He was retired to Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Stud and, to the end of the 2010 flat season, had sire of the winners of 233 races from five crops of racing age at a 56% strike-rate.
