Price retires son of Fastnet Rock

Former Queensland-based sprinter Faster Son has been retired by Caulfield trainer Mick Price.

Faster Son (5g Fastnet Rock – Sonata by Palace Music) began his career with Gold Coast conditioner Trevor Bailey and won four races as a three year-old before travelling south for the 2010 Melbourne spring carnival.

He scored first-up at Sandown and then blitzed his rivals in the MRC Mitty’s Cup at Caulfield on the G1 One Thousand Guineas support card.

Winless in 8 starts during 2011, Faster Son was transferred to Price earlier this year.  He won at Bendigo and was stakes placed at Caulfield before bowing out with a close third in the Mildura Cup last month.

Price cited ongoing joint problems and arterial fibrillation issues as the reasons for retiring the gelding.

Faster Son was a $45,000 buy for Ontrack Thoroughbreds at the 2008 Inglis Scone yearling sale.  He earned $211,000 from 7 wins in a 21 start career.
