The LR Raconteur Stakes (1500m) has been the launching pad for numerous class gallopers over the years and Properantes is heading in the same direction for trainer Colin Webster.

Properantes had won on debut at Pinjarra as a late-season juvenile in July last year and he maintained a spotless first-up record when resuming from a spell at Ascot on March 4.

Webster elevated the promising three year-old to black-type company on Saturday and he responded with a half-length victory over Muskets At Dawn and The Londoner.  “We thought he had a very good chance today,” Webster admitted.  “We put the blinkers on and that gave him an edge.”

Properantes (3g Danehill Express – Scala’s Quest by Marooned) was a $20,000 buy from Mungrup Stud at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions and is owned by long-time stable clients Pete Dinnison, Paz Princi and Anthony Torre.

His dam is an unraced half-sister to Mr O’Malley who finished fourth in the 2002 Raconteur Stakes won by Mapperholic.  Mungrup’s winning record in the race goes back to Surrender To Me in 1999.

Danehill Express stands at Mungrup Stud and he was also in the money with a two-state two year-old double last week – Express Snooper (Pinjarra) won on Thursday and Miss Clooney (Kyneton) on Sunday.

He also produced precocious trial winner The Cobbla on Tuesday.  The Stephen Miller trained gelding scored by four lengths in a 1000m hit-out and will debut in Race 1 at Bunbury this Wednesday.  He is a younger half-brother to G2 WA Guineas winner Vain Crusader.
