Punters choose Charlie

Vinery sire Myboycharlie has been the subject of strong support for the 2012-13 Australian first-season winners’ premiership.

Myboycharlie has firmed from $21 into $11 with Sportingbet Australia.  And Glenlogan Park freshman Real Saga has been backed in from $10 to $7.50.

Despite those market moves, Sportingbet has declined to ease Widden Stud favourites Sebring ($1.65) and Northern Meteor ($2.50).

Myboycharlie (Danetime) has 78 live foals in his first southern crop.  His top priced colt ($170,000 ex Fidelias Dance) was purchased by Mick Kent at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.  The next best ($165,000 ex Montelimar) was bought by Gai Waterhouse at the same sale.  Neither has been named.

His top priced filly ($150,000 ex Come Fly With Me) graduated from the Gold Coast and has been named My Girl Charlie.  She is out of a More Than Ready mare and is also on the books with Waterhouse.

Vinery champion More Than Ready holds the first-season record of 16 individual winners set in 2004-05.  He equalled the mark set by Lion Hunter in 2001-02.

“Every one of the three by Myboycharlie that I bought look like making smart two-year-olds,” Waterhouse said last month.  “They are natural athletes with very willing attitudes.”

Myboycharlie won the G3 Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh by seven lengths at his second start and then completed a hat-trick in the G1 Prix Morny at Deauville.

Myboycharlie is standing for a $8,800( inc gst) service fee at Vinery this year.
