Makfi has been sold to stand at Tweenhills Stud in England.  The Dubawi colt has won four from five including the G1 English 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and G1 Jacques le Marois at Deauville.  

The form out of both wins is first class.  Makfi defeated Dick Turpin (Arakan) and Canford Cliffs (Tagula) at Newmarket and champion mare Goldikova (Anabaa) last time at Deauville.

The al Thani family of Qatar bought Makfi in advance of his next start in the G1 Prix du Moulin at Longchamp on Sunday.  “Few other racehorses retire with such credentials as a sire—he has it all,” said David Redvers, bloodstock and racing advisor to the al Thani family.  “To have him to stand in England is a massive boost when he could have so easily been lost from Europe.”

Makfi (3c Dubawi – Dhelaal by Green Desert) will continue to race in the colors of Mathieu Offenstadt until he is retired after the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs.  

Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Estates bred Makfi in Great Britain and the colt was a 26,000gns (AUD 59,815) buy at the 2009 Tattersalls HIT Sale.  He is from an unraced half-sister to Sheikh Hamdan’s champion colt Alhaarth (Unfuwain) who was unbeaten in five starts as a juvenile in 1995 culminating with a G1 victory in the Dewhurst Stakes.
