Talented Queensland filly Before The Storm is one of several up-and-coming gallopers by Redoute’s Choice stallion Masterofceremonies.
Before The Storm (3f Masterofceremonies – Bird Show by Navajo Bird) collected a $13,500 QTIS bonus for connections when she scored a front-running victory in class-record time at Ipswich on Thursday, however, her sire is unable to cash in on the victory.
Masterofceremonies has not served a mare since being kicked in the penis during the 2006 covering season. He was based at Jelle-Jac Farms’ Queensland property at Gundiah in 2005 before transferring to Jelle-Jac’s Victorian nursery near Tatura the following year.
Studmaster Bill Kingsbury reports the horse will not cover mares this year and there’s only a slight chance he will ever return to the breeding barn. “It’s a tragedy because we’ve got 10 of his new-season two year-olds and they are all showing ability,” he said.
Before The Storm has been a model of consistency for Gympie trainer Steven Thomas winning twice at Ipswich and being placed another four times from 8 starts.
Kingsbury also races Diamondcowboy who was responsible for a very encouraging run when third to Sophrosyne and Midnight Glory in the $130,000 Inglis Bonus – Chatswood Vase at Seymour last Sunday.
Diamondcowboy (3c Masterofceremonies – Spectres by Quest For Fame) is trained by Bill Kingsbury at Tatura and has been nominated for the Always There Hcp (1500m) at Sandown Hillside next Wednesday, 2 September.
Masterceremonies was unraced after fracturing a foreleg as a foal at Edinglassie Stud. He is by Redoute’s Choice from the Military Plume mare Announce. Second dam Theme Song is a half-sister to Danehill sires Commands (Darley) and Danewin (Emirates Park) plus Encosta de Lago sire Bramshaw (Larneuk) who also retired without racing after a barrier mishap.
Masterceremonies was one of the first sons of Redoute’s Choice to go to stud along with Arrowfield Stud’s Not a Single Doubt and Raheen Stud’s Randwick winner Stromberg Carlson.
Not a Single Doubt topped the Australian first-season sires’ premiership for individual winners (13) while Stromberg Carlson made a pleasing start with 6 winners and another 5 placegetters from his first crop.
