Sheikh Mohammed will attend the first day of the VRC Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington on Saturday week and the Dubai ruler could collect a Group 1 double with close relations Sepoy and Induna.
Sepoy will start an odds-favourite in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Induna raced his way into Victoria Derby calculations with a Listed victory in the Geelong Classic on Wednesday.
Induna (3g Elusive Quality – Camarena by Danehill) firmed into $10 for the Victoria Derby after he led home a Darley and Elusive Quality quinella ahead of Cornell at Geelong.
“His work on Saturday morning was outstanding and it was a dominant win,” stable foreman Paul Snowden said. “He’s a seasoned horse and really hit the line at the end of 2200m.
Connections will now pay an $82,500 late entry fee to qualify him for the $1.50 million Victorian Derby.
Induna was coming off a runaway win in a Gosford maiden on October 6. He started a long odds-on favourite on the Central Coast after a Listed placing behind Big Time in the Dulcify Quality at Rosehill.
Induna is a younger brother to G1 AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Camarilla. Their dam Camarena was a G1 winner of the Queensland Derby and she is a sister to the dam of Sepoy.
