Patapan gelding clocks 10.20s at NZB Breeze Ups

The Breeze Ups for NZ Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale were completed on Tuesday afternoon.  A total of 307 two-year-olds went through their paces over the final 200 metres of the Te Rapa straight.

Every lot was individually timed and filmed.  DVD copies of the Breeze Ups will be available to order from NZB from Tuesday, 25 October and will be posted online from that date.

Monday’s Breeze Ups saw 163 two-year-olds take to the track which was rated a Slow 7.  The average time for the day was 11.18 seconds.  The fastest time of 10.22 seconds was Lot 12, the colt by Any Suggestion (ex Welbee Kryos) from Diamond Lodge.

Tuesday saw the track downgraded to a Slow 9 after overnight rain and the running rail was moved in four metres.

There were Breeze Ups by 144 two-year-olds at an average time of 11.48 seconds for the day.  The fastest time went to Mangatiti Bloodstock’s Patapan gelding (Lot 106) who ran a slick time of 10.20 seconds.

Patapan is a son of Stravinsky standing at Brighthill Farm.  He won 16 sprints up to G3 level in Italy with a career high coming in the G3 Premio Umbria (1200m) in Rome.  He broke the race record in a time of 1.08.00s.

Patapan’s oldest are two year-olds and his slick Te Rapa rep is from Dubbe (Volksraad).  He was pin-hooked for $9,000 out of the Brighthill consignment at the 2011 NZB Festival yearling sale.

The two days have seen some well-presented, smart entries including the Fastnet Rock filly from Esker Lodge (Lot 310) who clocked 10.85 seconds.

Heat 120 saw the Mana Park entries breeze up well.  The Elusive City colt (ex Luna Tudor) (Lot 205), the half-brother to the G1 winner Allez Wonder, and the Darci Brahma colt from Love Mary, (Lot 200) went 10.87 seconds.

Lyndhurst Farm, the leading vendor in 2010, saw their Street Sense colt (Lot 304) from the Danehill mare Sharise breeze up in good order, running a time of 11.22 seconds with Lot 57, the General Nediym colt from Botticelli (Dehere) running 11.21 seconds.
