Oaklands Stud based sire Chateau Istana was represented by his first black-type winner when Golden Chateau scored a $101 victory in the G2 Gauteng Guineas (1600m) at Turffontein on Saturday.
Golden Chateau (Aus) sat on the speed throughout and found the line strongly to win by a half length. He was the outsider of trainer Mike De Kock’s four runners.
Golden Chateau (3c Chateau Istana – Accent on Gold by Deputy Minister) was bred by Baramul Stud manager Paul Thompson and was a $7,500 buy as a foal at the 2009 Magic Millions National weanling sale. He is a half-brother to the winners Gold Attire (Melbourne), Pinot Girl (NZ), General Shek Po (Macau) and Mont d’Or (South Africa).
Chateau Istana (Grand Lodge) was a G2 winner of the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster and his South African based colt is one of 15 winners from his first crop. The Jason McLachlan trained filly Fusil De Eve opened his second crop account in a Gold Coast juvenile maiden on January 21.
Oaklands Stud has entered seven Chateau Istana yearlings for the Magic Millions QTIS Sale on March 18 and 19.
