Queenslanders set for third G1 Oakleigh Plate

Raheen Stud bred sprinter Adebisi has a Group 1 assignment in his sights after an impressive win in the G3 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.

The Shovhog sprinter rolled to the front and then found another gear when tackled by Rescue Mission on Saturday.  “He did a good job,” Craig Williams claimed after the gelding’s first anti-clockwise outing.  “He never got on the correct leg.”

Adebisi (5g Shovhog – Hell For Leather by Sanction) travelled south after winning the LR Razor Sharp Hcp (1200m) at Warwick Farm in December.  “He toughed it out in Sydney and was really brave when headed here,” trainer Desleigh Forster said at Caulfield.  “He’s a Queenslander.  What else do you expect?”

Adebisi was a $15,000 buy from Raheen at the 2009 Magic Millions Summer yearling sale.  Saturday’s victory boosted his record to 10 wins in 33 starts for over $732,000 in prizemoney.  “He will stay in for the Oakleigh Plate,” Forster added.  “That’s always been the main aim and the Rubiton helped him get used to Caulfield.”

Queensland has a great strike-rate in the Group 1 sprint with Woorim (2012) and Swiss Ace (2009) winning in recent years.

Raheen sold his yearling half-sister by Jet Spur for $70,000 at last month’s Gold Coast Magic Millions to leading agent Paul Willetts.  Hell for Leather foaled a filly last September by Raheen’s G1 winning sire Captain Sonador and she is now in foal to Commands.
