Raceway was ultra-impressive on debut for Gai Waterhouse in the Warwick Farm 100 Club Plate (1000m) on Saturday.
The More Than Ready colt settled just off the pace before clearing out for a commanding four length victory. “This horse is the nicest two-year-old I’ve ridden for quite some time,” winning jockey Hugh Bowman said. “With a bit of luck I might have a bit more to do with him.”
Raceway (2c More Than Ready – Claws by Flying Spur) clocked a slick 56.85 seconds prompting comparisons with former champion colt Sebring who won the 2008 Magic Millions and G1 Golden Slipper for Star Thoroughbreds.
“He’s a really smart horse,” Star syndicator Denise Martin said following the demolition. “Half of the Sebring group are in this horse as well as some other long time clients.”
The links with Sebring don’t end there. Both colts were bred and sold by Corumbene Stud owner George Altomonte and they carry the same More Than Ready – Flying Spur cross.
Raceway was sold for $150,000 at the 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale. The Vinery champion got him from Claws who has already thrown the minor winners Lets Hussle (Hussonet) and Vortex (Reset). She has a Not a Single Doubt filly on the ground.
It’s the family of Group 1 winners Cameronic (SAJC Goodwood Hcp) and Fire Arch (Turffontein Premier’s Cup).
