Lady on the make for Magic Millions

Lady Colours entered the frame for Queensland’s richest race day with a brilliant win in the Magic Millions Tickets Hcp (900m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Lady Colours (2f Red Dazzler – Rainbow Joy by Spectrum) will back up in next Saturday’s $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic according to local trainer Bruce Hill.  “She’s tough and is just an ideal racehorse,” Hill said.  “She is looking for 1200 metres now and, provided she pulls up alright, will run in the Classic.”

Prepared a stone’s throw from the track, Lady Colours zipped around the Gold Coast circuit in 50.97 seconds – just outside Murphy’s Blu Boy’s class record of 50.62 seconds.  Her last 600 metre sectional of 32.96 seconds made it impossible for the backmarkers to reel in the leaders.

Lady Colours was sent out the favourite after an eye catching placing at Rosehill behind high regarded Magic Millions Classic contender Amorino on New Year’s Eve.  “She was always going to improve with that run down in Sydney,” Hill added.  “She came home and didn’t miss a beat all week.”

Lady Colours was a $90,000 purchase from the draft of Corella Stud at the 2011 Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale.  She is by Eureka Stud sire Red Dazzler and is a younger half-sister to 2010 Magic Millions Maiden Plate winner Retrospect.

Second-dam Dancer’s Joy (Danzatore) won the fillies division of the 1990 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
