Commands gelding Rain Affair dominated his rivals with an easy victory in the G3 Missile Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
A winner of the Missile in 2011, Rain Affair recorded his sixth stakes victory for owner-breeder Don Storey. Jumping straight to the lead in his usual racing pattern, he careered away for in-form jockey Nash Rawiller to score by five lengths.
“It’s fantastic to see him win again,” trainer Joe Pride said. “He came here in good order. He is such an exciting horse and I know he is going to win a Group 1.”
Rain Affair (6g Commands – I Believe by Octagonal) will step up to the Warwick Stakes (1400m) next start followed by the Chelmsford Stakes and George Main Stakes. “If he doesn’t look as if he will get a mile, then we will come back and get him ready for the Manikato Stakes over the 1200 metres,” Pride added.
Rain Affair’s family has been a productive one for Storey going back to 1982 Silver Slipper winner Been There (Boucher).
Commands finished third on the 2012-13 Australian sires’ premiership behind fellow Darley champion Exceed And Excel and Coolmore Stud’s Fastnet Rock. It was one of his best seasons to date with 14 individual stakes winners including G1 winners Commanding Jewel, Epaulette and the NSW Miler of the Year Appearance.
As the sire of 57 Stakes winners, Commands is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $55,000 (inc gst).
