Raining winners for Darley

Darley stallions dominated the metro meetings in Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday with a combined total of 8 winners out of the 16 races run and won.

At Warwick Farm, the Darley sired winners were Adroitly (Octagonal), Bello (Exceed And Excel), Rain Affair (Commands) and Delzera (Grandera).

The Flemington four to score were Star Of Giselle (Reset), Pied A Terre (Ad Valorem), Module (Reset) and Warm Love (Octagonal).

Rain Affair is the latest standout to emerge for Commands.  He is a homebred for Don Storey who has been racing horses since the 1960s when he teamed up with Rosehill trainer Vic Thompson.

Rain Affair (3g Commands – I Believe by Octagonal) has only been beaten once in 7 starts and looked a feature winner of the future at Warwick Farm.  He dictated from the front end of the At Sea Hcp (1200m) before breaking away for a five length victory eased down.

“They can’t match motors with him,” trainer Joe Pride said.  “He’s a very exciting horse and now we will give him a chance against Group horses.”

The family has been a productive one for Storey and his late wife Val going back to their 1982 Silver Slipper winner Been There (Boucher).

Rain Affair is a younger half-brother to Storey’s Sydney winner Anything (Viscount).  Their dam I Believe has foaled fillies by Commands, Shamardal and Artie Schiller in the last three years.

Pride will step Rain Affair up to black-type company in the new season with his options being the G3 Missile Stakes at Randwick or the Listed Starlight Stakes at Rosehill.
