Black Caviar lit up Royal Randwick on Saturday taking her unbeaten streak to a perfect dozen in the Group 1 T J Smith Stakes over 1200m.

Black Caviar (4m Bel Esprit – Helsinge by Desert Sun) was put under the pump when Hay List skipped clear but the champion mare responded in front of a huge crowd roaring her on to victory.  

She collared Hay List (Statue Of Liberty) and cleared out to scored by next to three lengths in a race-record time of 68.71s.  Triple Honour (Honours List) was five lengths away in the third place.

Black Caviar was very much the talk of the town earlier this week at the Inglis Easter yearling sale when her Casino Prince half-brother topped proceedings at $1,025,000.

The Victorian mare was bred by Gilgai Farm owner Rick Jamieson.  She is by Eliza Park sire Bel Esprit and was sold by Swettenham Stud for $210,000 at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  The T J Smith purse increased her earnings to $3.21 million.

Trainer Peter Moody will now look to extend Black Caviar’s campaign to Brisbane where she will chase Group 1 wins in the BTC Cup and Doomben 10,000.

Black Caviar was ranked the best horse in the world after winning the G1 VRC Newmarket last month.  She received a Timeform rating of 130 after the Flemington runaway and that figure could be raised by another point after her Randwick cameo.
