The form surrounding Magic Millions 2YO Classic favourite Karuta Queen received another kick when Schiffer won the AJC Corporate Membership Hcp at Randwick on Sunday.
Schiffer (2f Snitzel – Modave by Montjeu) had been runner-up to Karuta Queen in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic on December 5 and trainer Gerald Ryan is looking forward to a return bout on the Gold Coast.
“She has good gate speed and she shows plenty of courage,” Ryan said. “She improved heaps and jumped out of the ground after Wyong. She’s eating up, she’s strong and will go straight into the Magic Millions.”
Schiffer is by Arrowfield resident Snitzel and her dam is a sister to Avondale Gold Cup winner Sharvasti and a half-sister to the G3 NZ winners Bhandara (Zabeel) and Shastri (Stravinsky).
The Snitzels have hit the ground running and Ryan was aboard from the get-go. Ryan also prepares Snitzel’s first-crop colt Top Drop and he earned a start in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas with a determined victory in the Randwick Betting Auditorium Hcp on Sunday.
Top Drop (3c Snitzel – Fine Red by Red Ransom) was only beaten two lengths by Toorak Toff in the G1 Golden Rose earlier this season and was then runner-up to Decision Time in the G2 Stan Fox Stakes at Randwick.
“He’s a great horse to train,” Ryan said. “He tries his little heart out every start and he’ll run a big race up on the Gold Coast.”
Snitzel got Top Drop from an unraced daughter of Listed VRC St Leger winner Kilspindie (Danehill).
Ryan trained Snitzel to a Group 1 victory in the MRC Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield and has already built up an affinity with his stock. Besides Schiffer and Top Drop, he also prepares Snitzel’s recent Sydney winners Hot Snitzel and Saramenha.
Snitzel stands alongside his own sire Redoute’s Choice at Arrowfield for a $27,500 fee.
