Mick Price has rated Aloha highly ever since she won her maiden at Sandown in August 2009. The Encosta de Lago filly was being set for the G1 One Thousand Guineas but Price had to pull stumps on a spring campaign after an unlucky second to Carrara in the Listed Henry Bucks at Flemington.
Aloha (4m Encosta De Lago – Tennessee Midnight by Danehill) resumed earlier this year and was always in the money without winning in stakes races behind the likes of Set For Fame, Small Minds and her close relation My Emotion.
She has come of age this season with Sunday’s Listed Lord Stakes at Caulfield completing a winning hat-trick for the mare. It followed comfortable victories at Moonee Valley at Flemington.
Price said Aloha will be nominated for the Sydney autumn carnival with her main goal the G1 Coolmore Classic at Rosehill in April. “She has made enormous improvement from an autumn three-year-old filly to a four-year-old mare,” Price said. “She will be more than competitive in Sydney as long as the tracks are not too soft.”
Aloha is raced by owner-breeder Gerry Harvey and is by Coolmore champion Encosta De Lago from Flemington stakes winner Tennessee Midnight. Her dam has foaled other winners by Zeditave and Zabeel (2).
Tennessee Midnight’s first foal Midnight Rock (Rory’s Jester) retired a maiden. Her first to race is Moonee Valley G2 winner My Emotion (Savabeel).
Baramul Stud’s draft at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions includes a More Than Ready half-brother to Aloha catalogued as Lot 577.
