Emotions ran high in the birdcage at Rosehill on Saturday after Rangirangdoo completed a fairytale return from a serious suspensory ligament injury.

The outstanding son of Rich Hill Stud sire Pentire was guided to another Group 1 success in the George Ryder Stakes by trainer Chris Waller in just his second start after an injury enforced spell.

Rangirangdoo (6g Pentire – She Wishes by Kenfair) was sidelined following a G1 victory in the Doncaster Handicap 12 months ago.  The George Ryder improved his record to 10 wins and 10 placings from 21 appearances.

“He’s a class horse and is like a best mate, it’s very special,” Waller said.  “He put in two brilliant gallops last week but I still thought he was a run short.

Rangirangdoo was bred by Rich Hill and was a $170,000 buy out of their draft at the 2006 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka.  His dam She Wishes won at Ellerslie and is a half sister to G2 NZ Eight Carat Classic winner Satinka (Stravinsky).  

She Wishes missed to Zabeel two years running after foaling Rangirangdoo.  She died after foaling a filly by O’Reilly in 2007.  She is named Lily Bollinger but is still unraced.

Rangirangdoo had won the G2 Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley and G2 Expressway Stakes at Rosehill before breaking through at the elite level in the 2010 Doncaster Mile.
