Rapid Redux tied the United States record for wins in a single year on Tuesday when he went wire-to-wire at Laurel Park.
Rapid Redux (5g Pleasantly Perfect – Thiscatsforcaryl by Storm Cat) won his 19th race in 2011, tying the legendary Citation, who won 19 during his Triple Crown season of 1948.
The chestnut began his career with trainer Kelly Breen and, after dropping into claiming company, was scooped up by owner Robert Cole Jr. and trainer David Wells for just $6,250 in October 2010.
Rapid Redux, who was bred in Kentucky by Fortress Pacific Equine, improved his record to 27 wins from 41 starts and upped his earnings to $351,919. He is a half-brother to the Unbridled’s Song stakes performers Be Like Mike and Sacred Journey.
