Scenic Lodge champion Blackfriars has achieved his best result at auction with a $330,000 filly at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.
His half-sister to Group 1 winning filly Delicacy was sold to Raffles Racing by Tyreel Stud on behalf of Scenic Lodge. The filly is also a half-sister to LR Belmont Guineas third Universal Law.
“She’s a great type and we were hoping she would be popular,” Scenic Lodge general manager Jeremy Smith said ahead of Thursday’s career-best result. “I bought their dam Simply Wicked for $4,000 at the 2014 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale. She’s a well-bred Scenic mare and, at that stage, no-one had heard of Delicacy.”
Malaysian-based Raffles Racing also sold an Exceed And Excel colt from its Group 1 winning Scenic mare Episode to Aquis Farm for $550,000 at the Magic Millions.
Simply Wicked has an unraced 2yo colt by Al Maher named Piece D’Resistance with trainer Roy Rogers and Smith sent the mare to the Hunter Valley last year to be covered by Redoute’s Choice.
Blackfriars has 25 yearlings catalogued for next month’s Perth Magic Millions from Scenic Lodge and outside breeders De Grey Stud, Gervase Park, Dawson Stud, Toreby Park & Oakland Park.
