Red Ransom cracks century of stakes winners

Red Ransom reached an epic milestone when Emmrooz won the Listed Jebel Ali Stakes last Friday.  The locally based gelding became the 100th individual stakes winners for the former Vinery shuttler.

Red Ransom joins breed shapers Northern Dancer, Mr Prospector, Sadler’s Wells, Sunday Silence, Storm Cat, Sir Tristram and Danehill among sires to have broken three figures for black-type winners.

Red Ransom (Roberto) began stud duties at Vinery’s Kentucky headquarters in 1991 and arrived in Australia to become its Australian foundation sire in 1999.  He died in November 2009.

He doesn’t have Australian juvenile runners this season due to E.I. but has a full crop of yearlings and a final crop of 40 foals.

“Red Ransom did so much to establish Vinery as a commercial stud farm in Australia,” general manager Peter Orton said.  “He proved an instant success and provided the ultimate outcross for the vast number of Northern Dancer and Star Kingdom-line mares in Australia.”

Red Ransom sired high class Group 1 winners like Onemorenomore, Duporth, All American, Red Dazzler, Typhoon Tracy, Charge Forward and Duporth in Australia.

His Kentucky bred G1 winners included Perfect Sting (Breeders’ Cup), Casual Look (English Oaks), Electrocutionist (Dubai World Cup) and Ekraar (Italia Gran Premio).

Emmrooz (6g Red Ransom – Nasmatt by Danehill) was bred by Darley and is trained by Dhruba Selvaratnam for Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid who owns Jebel Ali racecourse.

His dam Nasmatt won a Yarmouth nursery and was runner-up in the Listed Zeddaan Stakes at Deauville.  Second dam Society Lady (Mr Prospector) also foaled the stakes winners Bint Allayl (Green Desert), Laa Rayb (Storm Cat) Otaared (Storm Cat) and erstwhile Darley shuttler Kheleyf (Green Desert).

Emmrooz (GB) won his maiden at Goodwood in September 2009 and has since added another three victories to his scorecard in the Gulf.  Jockey Kieren Fallon said he could develop into a nice carnival horse this year after guiding the gelding to a three length victory last Friday.
