Redoute’s rules, OK

Arrowfield champion Redoute’s Choice edged closer to a century of stakes winners when Packing OK claimed the G3 National Day Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin.

The John Moore trained gelding pounced on the leaders to win running away by more than a length on Sunday.  It was his second feature victory in Hong Kong following the G3 Centenary Vase.

Packing OK (Redoute’s Choice – Abbadena by Runyon) was originally sold to Willie Leung’s Magus Equine for $480,000 at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  He won a Ballarat maiden by four lengths in January 2010 before shipping off-shore.

Redoute’s Choice has sired 91 stakes winners of 186 black-type races.  He leads fellow Arrowfield champions Flying Spur (86 SW) and Hussonet (85 SW) in the race to triple figures.

“I always thought he was a horse that was a little bit better over a bit more ground than 1400m but I think freshness and the one gate helped,” Moore summed up.  “(Ollie) Doleuze was actually quietly confident that he would run very well.  He got a good tow into the race and clocked a very slick time (1.20.71s).”

Packing OK is from LR Tasmanian Oaks winner Abbadena.  The mare is also the dam of Redoute’s Choice winner Flame Of Lanka but her last two foals by the Arrowfield champion and Manhattan Rain died.
