Millionaire galloper Idyllic Prince created history with a fourth consecutive victory in the LR Goodwood Sprint at Belmont on Saturday.
Idyllic Prince (9g Scenic – Uma Princess by Umatilla) dug deep to hold off G1 performer Playing God in trademark style. He has now won 15 races in 45 starts for earnings of $1,017,950.
The old boy won his first race back in December 2005 at Ascot for trainer Jim Taylor, his wife Tina and parents Mick and Lois. “He just keeps on battling through the pain barrier and bulldogs his way through his races,” Taylor said. “It’s been a wonderful ride for all of us.”
The Taylors also raced his dam Uma Princess to a Pinjarra win in March 2000. The following month she was beaten a head in the G3 Champion Fillies at Ascot.
Uma Princess foaled Idyllic Prince first-up in 2002 and Singapore winner Sky Raja (Blackfriars) 12 months later. The mare has drawn a blank since then although she has a 3yo gelding named Black Uma (Blackfriars), a 2yo filly by Universal Prince and a yearling colt by Blackfriars.
The Goodwood completed a double for Taylor and deceased Durham Lodge sire Scenic after the earlier win of Ten Aces in the Irish Day @ Belmont Hcp.
