War Chant notched his 50th black-type win on Saturday when ultra-consistent sprinter Doncaster Rover scored a narrow victory in the Listed City of York Stakes.

Doncaster Rover (USA) reeled in the leaders to win by a neck on the final day of York’s historic Ebor Festival.  “The horse is spot on at the moment,” trainer David Brown said.  “I always thought he was going to get there because he’s so genuine and will always do his best.”

War Chant (Danzig) shuttles to Yarradale Stud for the first time this year from Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky.

Doncaster Rover (5h War Chant – Rebridled Dreams by Unbridled´s Song) was originally sold for $45,000 to Dixie Farms at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale.  He was whisked off to England and changed hands again for 35,000gns at the 2007 Tattersalls yearling sale two months later.

His dam Rebridled Dreams was a Listed winner of the Money Penny Stakes in Chicago and there have been some significant updates to the family’s pedigree.

Her Thunder Gulch colt J. B.’s Thunder was a G1 winner of the 2010 Keeneland Breeders’ Futurity.  And her Tale of the Cat filly Dreamwriter was a six length winner on debut at Newbury last Saturday.

Doncaster Rover was a Listed winner of the Hopeful Stakes (1200m) at Newmarket last year and Brown is keen to defend the title next Saturday.  “I’m tempted to go to Newmarket again,” he said.  “It’s a fairly stiff test there and he likes that.”

Brown has also entered Doncaster Rover for the G1 Sprint Cup at Haydock Park on September 3 and the Ayr Gold Cup on September 17.

War Chant is ready to leave quarantine and is scheduled to arrive at Yarradale in time for the stud’s stallion parade next weekend.  He will stand for a $22,000 (inc gst) service fee.
