Reverend Lovejoy collected a third Goldfields trophy with a narrow victory in the LR Boulder Cup on Sunday.

Reverend Lovejoy (8g Love A Dane – Bold Joy by Bold Rancher) defeated Gondorff by a nose in the 2009 Boulder Cup and he prevailed by a similar margin over red-hot favourite Kincaple this year.

The evergreen galloper also won the 2009 Coolgardie Cup but failed when a $100,000 bonus was at stake in that year’s Kalgoorlie Cup.

Transferred to David Hayes, Reverend Lovejoy raced a dozen times in Victoria for lone victory at Caulfield in April 2010 before returning home earlier this year.

“He’s such a great competitor and a real genuine racehorse,” trainer Adam Durrant said.  “Compared to a footballer, he wouldn’t be a Chris Judd or Ben Cousins.  Instead, he would be one of those players who gets in and gets the job done.”

Reverend Lovejoy has won 16 races from 57 starts and earned almost $630,000.  He was a $6,500 buy from Rangeview Stud’s draft at the 2005 Perth Magic Millions Sale.  

His sire Love a Dane (Danehill – Tristalove) died in March 2009.  The best of his four stakes winners was Translate, a G3 winner of the VRC Matron Stakes at Flemington in 2008.

Reverend Lovejoy is from a half sister to Bellavega who was a Listed winner of the Australia Day Stakes at Ascot.  The best of her foals was G2 Perth Cup winner Heed the Toll (Serheed).
