Chatswood Stud owner Greg Willis produced an Australian Group 1 earlier this season and there could be another just around the corner in South Africa.
Willis bred and sold 2013 Victoria Derby winner Polanski (Rakti) and last Saturday’s G3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Rich Girl was also foaled a year later at the Seymour nursery.
Rich Girl (2f Rock of Gibraltar – Miss Moguls by Giant’s Causeway) looked all business when dispatching her rivals by four lengths in the Group 3 sprint at Clairwood. She is trained by Charles Laird for prominent owner Marcus Jooste.
An $11,000 buy out of the 2013 Chatswood Stud draft at Oaklands Junction, she was resold for R550,000 (AUD 56,000) at the Emperors Palace 2YO Sale last November.
Rich Girl is the 91st stakes winner by Coolmore Stud shuttler Rock of Gibraltar and she will now be aimed at the G1 South African Nursery at Turffontein on April 26 or be reserved for feature races during the KwaZulu Natal winter carnival.
Her dam Miss Moguls is a half-sister to the dam of Flemington stakes performer filly Tariks (Rock of Gibraltar). Another precocious filly in the family is Catnipped (Rory’s Jester) who won a G2 Maribyrnong Plate and Magic Millions Classic.
Miss Moguls was covered by Cherokee Rose Stud stallion Floral Pegasus (Fusaichi Pegasus) last year.
