Right Choice by Three Bridges

The timely decision to buy Redoute’s Choice mare Unusual Choice earlier this year has paid off for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds.

The Listons of Three Bridges paid $90,000 for Unusual Choice at the Teeley Assets dispersal sale in May on the advice of renowned bloodstock agent Paul Willetts.

She had foaled Crafty Choice (Starcraft) first-up but he was sidelined after wins at Albury and Canberra as a three year-old in 2011-12.  Her promising Fastnet Rock four year-old Kingdom of Dreams took over with wins at Cranbourne, Bendigo and Moonee Valley after the Teeley Sale.

Kingdom of Dreams followed that hat-trick with a close-up fourth in a blanket finish behind Qadir at Flemington on Saturday.  As usual, he got worked up at headquarters and had to be taken down the start before the others left the mounting yard.

“He’s slowly coming right,’ trainer Mark Kavanagh said.  “He’s still getting hot, but he’s racing very, very well.  I think he’s a really good horse.”

Fastnet Rock and Unusual Choice had teamed up on Friday when their three year-old gelding Quantum Dot found the line in a Kyneton maiden.  Trained by Mick Price, he was stepping up in distance to 1875m and defied running down to defeat Haut Chapeau (High Chaparral).

Since changing hands, Unusual Choice produced a lovely Fastnet Rock colt and is now safely in foal to Three Bridges stallion Unencumbered.

Unusual Choice is a grand-daughter of stakes-winner Winged Prayer from the family of G1 Golden Slipper winner Tierce.
