Australian bred mare Sun Classique will be repatriated from England to be mated with Redoute’s Choice this spring.
Sun Classique (6m Fuji Kiseki – Elfenjer by Last Tycoon) is trained by Mike de Kock and he recommended to connections the mare be retired. She strained a tendon twelve months ago and the injury has hampered her progress this year.
Sun Classique was bred in Australia by prominent South African horseman Lionel Cohen and was exported to the Cape Town stables of Mike Bass in June 2004. The Fuji Kiseki mare won the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas, Majorca Stakes and Woolavington 2200 before de Kock took over and transferred her to Dubai.
She won three in a row in the Gulf culminating with a G1 victory over Viva Pataca in the Sheema Classic in March 2008.
Sent to England, Sun Classique was being prepared for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes when a tendon injury flared up after trackwork at Newmarket.
“She will visit Redoute’s Choice if I can get her there in time,” Cohen said. “There are a few problems with vaccinations that we have to sort out and she may not get there until October.”
