Tasmanian trainer Barrie Campbell always has a good galloper or two housed at his Spreyton stables and Bionic Star fits the bill on that score and more.
Bionic Star (3g Bianconi – Aden by Rory’s Jester) is unbeaten after two starts on either side of a six month spell and Campbell is confident he is on course to win the $60,000 Jackson Motor Company 3YO Cup (1200m) in Launceston on November 24.
Campbell is gunning for his second 3YO Cup after winning with Magnetosphere last year.
Bionic Star won by five lengths first-up in Hobart last March and was just as impressive with a four length victory when resuming this season on September 25.
“He’s a good horse – no doubt about it,” Campbell said. “We took him down to Elwick for his debut run at two and he won with ease. I knew we had a handy horse then.
“His sectionals were the best of the day and then he came back and won by a big margin in good time again. I couldn’t be happier.”
Bionic Star is back in work after 10 days out in a paddock. Campbell will use the $30,000 Tony Carrick Memorial 3YO Vase (1100m) in Hobart on November 6 as a preliminary for the 3YO Cup
Owner Craig Hodge bred him by using Swettenham Stud sire Bianconi over former Hong Kong mare Aden who raced as Nobledash while being trained up there by David Hayes.
Aden will return to Bianconi this year. Her only other foal to race has been Hodge’s three-time winner Zeva Diva (Jeune).
