Rocky road trip for Aquatorial

Coolmore shuttler Oratorio (Ire) is tipped to sire the winner of another Magic Millions sales-related race on Thursday.

The Ron MacRae trained gelding Aquatorial will make the trip from Toowoomba for his biggest test to date in the 100,000 Magic Millions Rockhampton 2YO Classic (1200m) at Callaghan Park.

Oratorio (Ire) claimed his biggest Australian pay-day when Torio’s Quest won the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on the Gold Coast in January.

Aquatorial (2g Oratorio – Dolcetto by Canny Lad) won by seven lengths on debut at his home track in February and followed up with unlucky placings in town at his next three runs.  There were excuses in subsequent starts behind Easy Running (jumped awkwardly), Mr Favulous (struck interference) and Show A Prince (raced wide).

Aquatorial has drawn the rails in the Rockhampton 2YO Classic and MacRae has replaced blinkers with winkers for the first time.

MacRae knows the family well after training his older half-brother Bonza Crop (High Yield) to win the 2006 Toowoomba Magic Millions 2YO Trophy.  Their dam Dolcetto is a winning half-sister to Listed SAJC Balcrest Stakes winner Wake Me Not (Southern Appeal).

He bought Aquatorial for $50,000 from the Goodwood Farm draft at the 2010 Magic Millions Summer yearling sale.

Aquatorial will start favourite in a very competitive edition of the Rockhampton 2YO Classic.  Hardest to beat will be the Robert Heathcote trained Trump (Written Tycoon) and Spurtastic (Flying Spur).  The latter will carry Shoot Out’s colours for owners Graham and Linda Huddy.
