Star filly Military Rose emphasised her status as one of the star lots of the upcoming Magic Millions National Sale with a classy all the way win in the G3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) on Saturday.
Military Rose (3f General Nediym – Bella Maddelena by Flying Spur) appreciated the familiar surroundings of the Gold Coast after disappointing preps in Melbourne and Sydney. She also welcomed being allowed to highball in front and found plenty to defeat Celtic Dancer (Choisir) and Skating On Ice (Bradbury’s Luck).
Trainer Gillian Heinrich was all smiles after notching another feature race victory on her home track. “She’s back!” Heinrich claimed. “She’s comfortable in the lead and doesn’t fight or choke down.”
Heinrich was frustrated with the wet tracks in Sydney last month. “We just kept scratching and scratching and eventually brought her home for this race. The track was a Slow 6 early on but it picked up this afternoon.”
Military Rose has been an extraordinary money-spinner for the Heinrichs. She cost $155,000 from Middlebrook Valley at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions and her earnings from 6 wins in 11 starts now stand at $1.62 million.
The 2010 Magic Millions 2YO Classic boosted her bank balance as did a follow-up victory in the G2 Reisling Slipper Trial at Rosehill.
Military Rose is catalogued as Lot 733 at the Magic Millions National Sale on Sunday, May 29. She is by deceased Widden Stud sire General Nediym and hails from the family of Zeditave, Melito and exciting young sire Jet Spur.
