Tampiko ticks another box for Lonhro

Lonhro is making a massive impact at stud.  The Darley sire has come a long way since his first runners appeared and he ticked another box when Tampiko snatched a last-stride victory in the LR Prime Minister’s Cup at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Tampiko is the 10th stakes winner from Lonhro’s first crop and she is also his 10th stakes winner this season.

Tampiko (5m Lonhro – Ancient Song by Canny Lad) began her career with wins at Matamata, Tauranga and Ellerslie before joining Peter Moody’s team this time last year.  She scored first-up at Kilmore and maintained winning form at Bendigo and Moonee Valley (2) before banking her first black-type at the Gold Coast.

Tampiko is raced by Kiwi couple Don and Rochelle McLaren and they also bred last year’s G1 Rosehill Guineas winner Zabrasive (Zabeel).

A product of Turangga Farm, she is the first foal of G1 VRC Salinger Stakes winner Ancient Song and was sold for $500,000 at the 2007 Australian Easter yearling sale.

Lonhro will stand at Darley Aberdeen this season for a fee of $77,000 (inc gst).
