Run a month the key to Majinika

Majinika can continue his winning run for Starline Park sire Izmir when he returns to racing next month.

A last-start winner of the WA Bookmakers Association Hcp (1200m) at Belmont on June 10, he races best when given a month between starts. “He’s had a few issues but we’re beginning to work him out,” co-trainer Jason Miller said. “He did extra well after an Ascot run in April so I backed him up after a fortnight but he didn’t fire. We will keep him to 1200m, too.”

Majinika (5g Izmir – Bettabon by Ron Bon) duelled with Meteoroid down the straight before edging clear at the finish. He has built up a great strike rate for a partnership managed by Kathy Williams winning 7 times in 15 starts for prizemoney of $181,125.

“Keeping him fresh is the key and he’s still got something in the tank at the end of 1200m,” winning jockey Joey Azzopardi said. “He sat on the speed gave me plenty to get over the top of the leader.”

Izmir is an unraced Red Ransom brother to Aquis Farm sire Domesday and he initially stood at Rivercrest Stud before relocating to Starline Park at Wooroloo.
